We will cover key findings and action points resulting from a roundtable workshop with industry practitioners from in and around the South West of England, and influenced by John Turner’s 8 weeks of research in conjunction with the Said Business School, Oxford.

The topics we will cover:
- Building a Strong Data Management Foundation: Guidance on how businesses can assess their current data infrastructure and identify areas for improvement, focusing on capturing and analysing data effectively. We’ll explore essential steps for creating a robust data management strategy, encompassing data collection, organisation and analysis, for example to equip sales teams with valuable customer insights.
- Unlocking Potential with Bespoke Software: Once a solid data foundation is established, the discussion will shift towards the benefits of implementing customised software solutions that enable the founding pillars of any business model – partnerships, activities, channels, cost and revenue streams among others.
- Adoption of AI tools as the ultimate way of moving forward: Adoption of AI requires a strategic blueprint and analysis. A framework that pinpoints where, how and why AI tools can be integrated. We will be looking at the AI readiness spectrum and the various business activities where it can become a game changer.

Beyond his work in the Visitor Economy, John serves as an Industrial Fellow at the Institute for Mathematical Innovation at the University of Bath. His passion for continuous learning is reflected in his focus on Artificial Intelligence for business, alongside his Chartered Marketer status with the Chartered Institute of Marketing. His recent completion of PGDipAI studies at Oxford University Said Business School and ongoing education at The Alan Turing Institute in AI and Data Ethics further underscores his commitment to professional development.

Ben Hammond
Managing director of insight and consultancy
Ben joined the lang cat as Managing director of insight and consulting in September 2023, despite owning only a dog. Prior to hopping into the basket, he worked as an industry consultant for almost a decade and has been involved in financial services for more than two of them.
His passion (if that’s the right word) has been platforms and technology since his time at M&G Wealth, née Ascentric, and Cofunds, where he worked hard to develop new and innovative products and solutions. Ben is a regular contributor to the press, judges a few different awards (and can often be found at the associated ceremonies) and is always up for a coffee and a chat; however, his music choices are sometimes frowned upon and so he often finds himself banned from accessing the office Sonos.

Oli Ballard started his career in communications working for two MPs and regional newspapers in the southwest before playing a role in setting up, growing and eventually exiting national B2B media group – Business Leader.
In his 15 years at Business Leader, Oli oversaw commercial and editorial teams and hosted hundreds of business events and awards. He recently set up a new business called We Are Trailblazer – which is focused on B2B events that generate leads.
