The University of Surrey had initiated a research project named “Equine”. This ambitious venture focused on the assessment of horse ECGs (Electro Cardio Diagrams) to determine their health, particularly critical for racing horses. The outcome could aid stakeholders in making informed decisions about the competency and well-being of a horse.
The university had a proficient algorithmic developer who developed algorithms to analyse these ECGs. However, while the team excelled in the algorithmic component, they faced challenges in transforming these algorithms into a functional web-based prototype accessible to all users, regardless of their technical prowess. Recognising their challenges, the university approached Blue Tea. Our primary goal was to ensure that the university’s algorithms and scripts could be utilised by any user, irrespective of their tech proficiency.
Here’s how Blue Tea responded:
- Web Application Development: Crafted an interface for users to access and interact with the algorithms.
- Secure Login Facility and Data Encryption: Implemented a security protocol to ensure only authorised users could access the system. Ensured all data processed and stored was encrypted for safety.
- Large Dataset Processing: Facilitated the handling of vast amounts of ECG data.
- Audit Trails for Compliance: Enabled tracking of all data accesses and changes for transparency and compliance.
- Custom API Development: This allowed the algorithms to be available through the web.
- Algorithm Integration: Ensured seamless interaction between the developed web interface and the university’s algorithms.
- DevOps and CI/CD Process: Established a system for continuous integration and deployment, ensuring the application was always updated and operational.
- Visualisations/Charting: Created a system to visualise the results from the ECG assessments, although the specifics of these visualisations were confidential.
The primary advantage of our solution was that the university researchers, who were not well-versed in web application development and other associated domains, didn’t have to venture into uncharted territories. This allowed them to focus on their core competencies.
Moreover, we consulted and identified areas the university wasn’t even aware they needed, like data encryption and audit trail management. This proactive approach ensured that the university got a comprehensive solution that was secure, compliant and user-friendly.
In essence, Blue Tea’s involvement prevented potential sunk costs that the university might have incurred if they had tried to build the system on their own. The project was a testament to the importance of specialists in each domain collaborating to achieve a holistic solution.
